Samsung Refrigerator Problems

The most common Samsung refrigerator problems are most often associated with the freezer and temperature regulation. The icemaker will stop making ice and may need to have the water valve checked.

Problems with rising freezer temperatures that do not go down causing foods to freeze very quickly are also another common problem. There are also problems with cooling issues over time. The refrigerator unit may also start to leak onto the floor as well.

Samsung refrigerator problems vary in capacity and may also require numerous repairs before they work properly. Some of their side-by-side units stop working entirely after only a few months of use.

Consumers may also experience loud knocking sounds in the back of the unit. However, if ice is removed from the back panel it may cause the entire unit to no longer defrost or to cool food items.

Many of the problems that arise from Samsung refrigerators are the computer board or mainframe that operates the freezer. They become defective much sooner than most brands.

Some unexpected Samsung refrigerator problems include rusting and chipping of the paint. Rapid chipping on the unit may require the purchase of a new refrigerator door. This can become a costly solution if the problem is not corrected.

Another issue that includes the temperature is how rapidly the freezer accumulates ice around the unit. This requires consumers to break away ice on a weekly basis. The temperature is not properly regulating itself causing it to shift toward freezing on its own. This affects how quickly foods are frozen making it almost impossible to remove food items from the unit.

Samsung referred technicians also add to the problem by not being fully equipped to fix the problems associated with their defective problems. They amount of time it takes to order a part from the company and the time it takes for the repairman to actually fix it is also a problem as well.

Many times the problem will persist until it no longer works. However, one of the biggest problems may also deal directly with the quality of customer service received by the consumer.

  1. I bought a Samsung refrigerator less than two years ago. Within a year the door started rusting below the ice/water-through-the-door dispenser. Samsung won’t cover it under warranty. They say it’s “cosmetic.”Stay away from Samsung refrigerators.

  2. Same issues. Samsung customer service was slow to respond…offered a pathetic resolution ($) and told me I need to send in the serial plate and the electrical cord!

  3. I bought a Samsung side by side with ice and water in January of this year. We noticed a month or so ago that the ice maker was defective and had caused the bin to break on the sides. Water sources were pointed up and spraying all over instead of just into the maker.

Repair call was made and parts were ordered. Yesterday I was called and told that one of the parts was back ordered and our only option now is a refund (send in cord and serial plate) or replacement. We’re going with the replacement as we don’t want to be without a refrigerator while this is sorted out, but if the same one is a higher price or unavailable we will have to pay the difference. Oh well, we will see how this goes. We think it’s kind of strange that the ice maker can’t be fixed. Glad we noticed it under warranty and are a bit wary of getting another one of these.

  4. We bought a SAMSUNG French Door refrigerator two months ago. The ice maker quit first, then the freezer. We have been waiting for two weeks, so far, to get it fixed ,with no repair dat in sight yet.

Lost over $400.00 worth of food in freezer.

    NOT HAPPY!!!

    Seeking legal advice.

  5. P.S. I WANT MY MONEY BACK, PLUS WHAT IT HAS COST ME.

  6. interesting. i bought the same fridge at the beginning of 2011. my wife started noticing that the doors had rust spots. i have called them for the past 3 months now trying to get this resolved. they came out and replaced the doors and the doors kept rusting. so they finally offered us an exchange. which i gladly took.

  7. Take care when buying a new Samsung fridge with regards to the actual spec sizes that they say vs what shows up at your house.
We found the width was wider due to the manufacturing QC issues.
someone at Samsung had injected too much of the foam insulation each side blowing the side panels out wider than the spec said.
infact the spec on our said 35.75″ it actually measures 36.125″ with the over stuffed insulation. It looks like each fridge is different.
Make sure you check this before it gets off the truck if you are tight on width. Make sure the sides are nice and flat with a long level.Samsung need to check each one before it leaves the factory making sure its the correct size.

  8. i have a three year old samsung model rs267lbbp.two days ago it quit cooling.called samsung.anyway you might as well not have a warrenty.iam going to just junk it.iam going to buy an LG as samsung is crap and dont warrenty there crap.

  9. Don’t buy an LG. We bought ours 4 1/2 years ago (french door w/ ice & water in the door) and we have had nonstop problems with it. Currently the refrigerator freezes our food – I go to get my milk in the morning and it’s frozen, it ruins fruits and vegetables. Their customer service is terrible. Looking to replace it…Considering a Samsung or GE. Will not buy an LG refrigerator again.

  10. Our Samsung refrigerator (French Door/Bottom Freezer) has literally destroyed our 4 month old house! Extremely unhappy with our Samsung! We have owned it for less than 4 months and I awoke Monday to find water pouring out of the front of the machine (ice maker). The hardwood floor has had to be ripped out and basement walls had to be removed to facilitate the drying process. Samsung have been less than helpful and haven’t even offered so much as an apology. We contacted them first thing and they ask me to submit photos of the damage, which I promptly did, and they said they’d send someone right out. Five days and multiple phone calls later and they still have done NOTHING!! We were forced to submit a claim through our homeowners insurance for help with the mess and have had a dry-out team in our house for three days! I had an appliance repairman out to look at the fridge and he commented that it’s the second Samsung machine (same model) he’s seen cause that much damage in the past year alone!

We too will be seeking legal advice!

  11. I have a Samsung bottom freezer. I have not had any problems with the freezer but I am getting a lot of condensation down the back of my vegetables drawers and have to empty about 1/4 inch of water once a week. The refrigeratore temperature is at what is suggested 38 degrees. Anyone know what I can do? It is only about 1 year old and I love it except for this problem.

  12. I too purchased a Samsung Refridgerator Model RS265TDWP and 1 1/2 years into owning it rust starting appearing at on the door at the bottom part of the ice dispenser. Called them spent hours on the phone they said buy some paint. They also would not give a coupon to replace the fridge at a discount. I told them they would not get my business with any of their products, ever! Stay away from Samsung anything. They are a perfect example of why Americans are losing so much money. The overseas companies are ripping us off with crap products. And our hard earned money is going out of our country. God bless America and buy American!!!

  13. These comments surprises me quite a bit and upsets me too just a bit. I have owned a Samsung refrigerator in the past about 3-4 yrs ago and had no problems with it. Bottom freezer model. It’s March 2012 and buying a home and been doing some research on Samsung and indigations tell me Samsung is rated #2 at a close #1. I’m trying to figure all this out with all these so called ice & bottom freezer problems etc. with Samsung. It could deter me from purchasing a Samsung refrigerator. Puzzled ????

  14. I own Samsung model #RS267lbsh/xaa Honestly I think all Samsung refrigerators no good you will have problem soon or later regard less what model you own. I went on line and found out Samsung refrigerator have class action lawsuit against them

  15. Same problem as Rachel –except our Samsung French door model RFG29PHDRS/XAA was delivered and connected on 5/2/12 and we returned to our new home on 5/4/12 to find it absolutely flooded. Several thousand dollars damage to hardwood floors and who knows how cabinets and walls will ultimately be affected. I contacted Samsung customer service and provided details to “Veronica” who was very nice. She stated she would send the info to “Product Liability” and they would contact us soon. We have heard “nothing” despite our attempts to call them.
